Sunday Services – 28/06/20

Our online Sunday Worship Service will be available to watch via our YouTube channel from 9am on Sunday morning. The service booklet, which can be used in conjunction with this service, is available to view/download here, as is the talk by Emma Allison. The order of service for our Sunday Xtra Service is available to view/download here. Between services, from 10.15-11.15am, we invite you to join us for Sunday Coffee & Chat via Zoom. This is an opportunity to connect and catch up over a cup of coffee (or tea) in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Stay for as little or as long as you like! Please email: for details of how to join.

In our services this week we will focus on the theme of ‘church’ and this goes hand in hand with a focus on ‘mission’. We will be looking at the passage in Acts 2 where the early Christians were able to meet together and also to work together to make a difference in the world. We hope that despite the lockdown over the past 3 months, St Paul’s has also experienced this sense of ‘togetherness’. It has been a joint effort to keep going as a church, to expand our activities online and especially to be present in our neighbourhoods through prayer and contact with people around us.

Our online services, groups and events will continue as usual while we await discussions and decisions as to how and when St Paul’s may safely start to reopen its building again. In the meantime, let’s be patient and make use of the ‘easing’ of some of the lockdown rules. It is now permitted to meet up with members of one other household at a time, and from the 6th of July, those who are shielding will be able to gather in groups of up to six outdoors (both whilst maintaining social distancing, unless part of your support bubble), so why not invite other members of the congregation to do some of this with you? In that way, we will start to create a sense of ‘togetherness’ again. Please be aware especially of those who have been isolated and keep using the phone, e-mail and online opportunities as a way to connect. As Paul says in Romans 12: Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer… Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

I the Lord of Sea and Sky

A few weeks ago, the congregation was invited to take part in the singing of ‘I the Lord of sea and sky’ with the refrain ‘Here I am Lord’. The final version of this piece of choral and congregational singing will be used in our service this Sunday, but you can also watch it here!

This world I live in

This world I live in,
this town I live in,
this street I live in,
this house I live in,
may each be the focus of my prayer.
Those I live with,
those I rub shoulders with,
those I work with,
those I don’t get on with,
may each be the focus of my prayer.
Those who laugh,
those who cry,
those who hurt,
those who hide,
may each be the focus of my prayer.
Prayers centred less on self
and more on others,
less on my circumstances,
more on the needs of others.
May my life be likewise centred
less on self and more on You,
and through You to the world
in which I live and move.

Words by John C Birch,

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

Your Kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours.

Now and for ever. Amen.
