Sunday Services – 26/07/20

The theme for this Sunday’s online worship service, which will be available to view on our YouTube channel from 9am on Sunday morning, is ‘Moving forward with God’s guidance’. The service will feature a message from Bishop Nick to the churches, music, songs, readings, a talk by Henriette Howarth, which is available to view/download here, and Holy Communion celebrated in the church building. The service booklet, which can be used in conjunction with this service is available to view/download hereSunday Xtra will have a Zoom Service this week commencing at 11.30am, which will be preceded by Sunday Coffee and Chat at 11am. Both will take place using the same Zoom meeting, so feel free to join us any time from 11am and leave whenever you wish. Your hosts will be John Butler and Mark Allison. Please get in touch for details of how to join.

In our services over the summer we will focus in our talks on the story of Exodus – the great Biblical story of liberation. God leads the people of Israel out of slavery into the promised land, but it is not plain sailing. There are many distractions, stand-stills and setbacks. With God’s guidance the people keep moving forward, trusting in God’s faithfulness and holding on to his promises. This story can be a paradigm for what we go through in our world today with the pandemic and also the continuing struggle for freedom from the bondage of slavery, exploitation and inequality. Why not watch the musical film Prince of Egypt to refresh your memory of the biblical story of the Exodus?

Open for Prayer & Worship

The church building is now open for personal prayer on Wednesdays from 10-11.30am. People are welcome to come and sit quietly in the church space to reflect, pray, read and meditate. We will also make some prayer sheets available for personal use. There will be a team coordinated by our wardens, Anne Luxton and Matt Stoney, to give guidance as you arrive. You are welcome to come for the whole time or just pop in for a few minutes.

We will also hold our first worship service with Holy Communion in the church building on Sunday 2nd August at 10.30am. Initially, our worship services in church will be held fortnightly throughout August.

We will be following all the government and diocesan guidelines to make our prayer and worship services as safe as we can. This includes:

  • Sanitising hands
  • 2m physical distancing
  • Holy Communion, only with wafers, not with wine
  • Face masks are mandatory

We advise that people with Covid symptoms stay at home, as well as those who need to continue shielding. We hope many of the congregation will feel confident enough to come and be part of our prayer and worship services in church, however, no-one must feel guilty for not attending. We will continue to also hold services online for the foreseeable future.

Online Groups

Don’t forget that many of our regular church groups are now meeting online. These include our Meditation Group, Faith Chat Group, Junior Choir, Choir, Young Adults, Book Group and Saturday Cafe. Some of these groups will continue to meet throughout the summer. For more information about any of the above, please click here.

Loving God,

As we, your people, journey together

in the footsteps of faith

may we never lose our sense of direction,

keep eyes focused upon our destination,

drink from the well and eat of the bread

that will bring us life, and hold out our hand

to any who may falter or stumble along the way.

May we know that Jesus accompanies us

every moment of every day.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

Your Kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours.

Now and for ever. Amen.
