Sunday Services – 17/05/20

Presently we are experiencing in a deeper way that church is not about the building, but about people connecting with God and one another. Of course, we all hope that our building will be open again at some point this year and that our gatherings will start again (we are particularly aware that some of our friends in the community are really missing activities like Saturday Café, Toddler group and Thursday Lunch Club (TLC) as they offer the human and social contact that are so needed) but until then, let’s make the most of our online opportunities, the post and telephone! We can now even meet up with individuals again in public spaces, but at a safe distance of course. Despite the lockdown restrictions being gradually lifted, we urge you to be sensible and take great care to stay safe. If you would like to receive weekly updates from St Paul’s via email, please get in touch via the Contact Us page and we will add you to our mailing list.

In our services this week we focus on the Holy Spirit, our help and comforter. The Sunday morning worship service will be on our St Paul’s Shipley YouTube channel from 9am on Sunday morning. Click here for the service booklet. Sunday Xtra follows this order of service with links to contemporary worship songs. John Butler’s talk is available here. On Sunday evening, Shipley Christians Together (SCT) will broadcast a joint service at 6.30pm on their dedicated SCT YouTube Channel. Please make an effort to join this service. We are sure that you will be blessed.

On Thursday 21st May it is Ascension Day. For many years now the global movement of prayer Thy Kingdom Come has produced resources to help us pray, especially between Ascension Day and Pentecost. Please go to their website for all their resources. As a taster, you could watch the following video clip with Christians across the UK praying the Lord’s Prayer on their frontlines.

Come Holy Spirit, come among us

Come Holy Spirit, come as the wind to move us

Come Holy Spirit, come as the fire to prove us

Come Holy Spirit and renew us

Come Holy Spirit and heal us

Come Holy Spirit and comfort us

Come Holy Spirit and guide us

Come Holy Spirit and strengthen us

Come Holy Spirit

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

Your Kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours.

Now and for ever. Amen.
